Bell-ringer ends world-record quest

Steve Batzka ended his attempt to break a world bell-ringing record at 1 a.m. after 36 hours, the Salvation Army announced today.

The Salvation Army appreciates Batzka's effort to raise awareness and donations for its annual Red Kettle Campaign, the organization said in a statement.

Batzka was trying to ring the bell for 60 consecutive hours. He was among eight bell-ringers around the country trying to set the record.
