2 men charged with Kroger liquor thefts

Two Fort Wayne men were charged Wednesday with stealing more than $1,000 worth of liquor from at least one city Kroger store.

Levonuia Riley Jr., 52, and Marvin Earl Hamilton, 61, have been charged with corrupt business influence, theft and being habitual offenders. According to court documents, the men worked as a team to steal a total of 39 bottles of liquor from Kroger on Oct. 20, 21 and 30.

The total amount stolen was worth $1,093.11, according to court documents.

Riley and Hamilton returned to Kroger on Nov. 3 and attempted to steal 15 bottles of liquor valued at $378.85, but as they attempted to exit the store, a police officer was waiting and the two returned inside, according to court documents.

They unloaded the bottles they had hidden onto a shelf in the housewares section of the store, court documents said.

Riley and Hamilton were not in custody Wednesday night.
