Local candlelight vigil tonight to show support for Newtown families

– There will be a candlelight vigil Saturday for local residents who wish to offer prayers, thoughts and support for the community of Newtown, Connecticut.

The vigil will be held in the Allen County Courthouse square at 7 p.m.

Brian Thornton of Fort Wayne, who organized the event, said he has invited pastors from area churches to attend.

There is a limited supply of candles and people are encouraged to bring their own, if possible, Thornton said.

"Everyone is feeling helpless and I'm not sure how much we can help, but I feel like we can at least do something," Thornton said on the Facebook page he has created for the event.

Thornton invites everyone, whether religious or not, to attend and offer support for the families of the victims.

For more information, visit Thornton's event page or call him at 348-7678.
