Apartment thefts on video

Up to 20 air conditioning units have been stolen from a Fort Wayne apartment complex in the past month, and investigators are seeking help in catching an apparent thief who was caught on camera.

In response to the rash of thefts, the property manager at Twin Oaks Apartments, 2754 E. Paulding Road, installed surveillance cameras, police said.

One of the cameras recorded images of a man apparently dismantling a central-air unit outside a building. Such units contain copper and aluminum, which can be sold for scrap.

Police released a video Friday that shows the man’s face.

Anyone who recognizes the man in the video clips is asked to call the Fort Wayne Police Department at 427-1222 or CrimeStoppers at 436-7867.
