Irish drop IPFW

SOUTH BEND - Notre Dame had little trouble in dropping IPFW 74-62 at the Purcell Pavilion on Monday.

It was the eighth straight win for the 22nd-ranked Irish (10-1), while IPFW (5-7) has lost its last three games.

Trailing 13-11 after Mario Hines' basket underneath, IPFW went on an 0-for-11 shooting slump from which the Mastodons never recovered.

As IPFW was missed 11 in a row, Notre Dame outscored the Mastodons 8-0 for a 21-11 lead, then cruised into halftime with a 40-28 bulge - the same 12-point lead at the end of the night.

Pat Connaughton led Notre Dame with 18 points. Jack Cooley added 14 points.

Luis Jacobo and Joe Edwards each scored 11 points for the Mastodons.
