Purdue freshman forward Jay Simpson will miss rest of the season with foot injury, the team announced before Tuesday's game against Ball State. He will be eligible to seek a medical hardship waiver, according to the news release.
Simpson appeared in all 10 of the Boilermakers games. The reserve was averaging 2.6 points and 2.3 rebounds in 7.6 minutes per game.
"Jay has made every effort to rehab his foot in order to continue to contribute on the court this season, but it hasn't come along as quickly as we would have liked," Purdue coach Matt Painter said in a statement. "The most important thing for Jay right now is to get completely healthy so this injury doesn't remain a problem down the road."
The Boilermakers (4-6) look to snap a two-game losing streak. The Cardinals (5-4) have won three in a row. Guard Jesse Berry leads the team in scoring, averaging 13.2 points per game. Forward Majok Majok is averaging 12.9 points and 11.1 rebounds.
