FORT WAYNE – The Peace and Justice Commission in Allen County has scheduled a Heal the Land prayer service at the site of Fort Wayne’s most recent homicide.The service is 12:15 p.m.A man attacked the owner of a Fort Wayne car dealership during an attempt to steal cash from the business, according to court documents filed Monday.
Rodney Gray, 60, was charged with felony attempted theft and misdemeanor battery.
The afternoon of Dec. 11, Gray came into Ultimate Auto Deals at 5000 Decatur Road and entered the cashier’s office where he started taking money from a register, the owner told police. The owner confronted Gray and tried to keep him from leaving, but Gray punched him in the face, court documents stated.
Gray pulled a folding knife and pointed it at dealership employees before he fled toward Lafayette Street, court documents said.
He opened the door of a truck in the street and tried to pull out a passenger, but the passenger closed the door. He then tried to climb into the bed of another truck, but the truck started to move, and he was dragged a short distance, according to court documents.
After that, dealership employees managed to restrain him until police arrived.
Gray, of the 300 block of West Oakdale Drive, was being held Monday at the Allen County Jail in lieu of $3,250 bail.
