Robbery attempt ends in remorse

Warsaw police said a man started to rob a gas station over the weekend but was overcome by remorse and left in the middle of the holdup, later returning to apologize.

The robbery attempt was reported about 4:45 p.m. Saturday at the Freedom Express gas station at 425 S. Argonne Road.

The clerk told police a man entered, claimed to have a gun and demanded money, but then left the business and walked south. While officers were searching the area, the clerk called to report that the robber had returned and was in the parking lot in a pickup truck. Officers arrived and arrested the man, identified as Joseph Bradley, 53, of Claypool, police said.

Bradley told police he had intended to rob the gas station but left because he felt bad about it. He told police he had no gun during the robbery attempt and that he came back to the business to apologize to the clerk.

Bradley was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on a charge of attempted robbery. He posted a $5,000 bond to be released Saturday.
