Irish bring out stars for BCS pep rally

Notre Dame's pep rally before the No. 1 Irish (12-0) play No. 2 Alabama (12-1) in the BCS championship game Jan. 7 in Miami will be a star-studded affair.

The university announced that former Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz, who led the program to its last championship in 1988, and actor Martin Short will be among the speakers at the rally.

But the Irish didn't stop there.

Former Notre Dame players Joe Theismann, Pat Terrell, Tony Rice and Mike Golic will also speak at the rally with Golic, who is a co-host for ESPN radio's "Mike and Mike in the Morning," serving as the event's master of ceremonies.

Short's inclusion in the lineup stems from the comedian's two sons graduating from Notre Dame and his position on the advisory council for the university's DeBartolo Center for the Performing Arts.

The rally will be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 5 at Lummus Park in the South Beach area of Miami.
