Winter weather advisory: Kosciusko, Wabash, Whitley

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. today for the Indiana counties of Cass, Fulton, Kosciusko, Miami, Wabash, White and Whitley.

Total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches are expected by late tonight. Blowing and drifting snow will cause hazardous holiday travel conditions. In addition to the snow, northeast winds will increase to 25 mph with gusts of 30 to 35 mph, resulting in blowing and drifting snow and reduced visibility.

A winter storm will affect the area through Wednesday evening. A strong low pressure system over Mississippi woll move northeast to Virginia tonight. Snow will expand northward through northern Indiana and northwest Ohio this morning and overspread south central lower Michigan late this morning.

The snow will be heavy at times today, especially along and southeast of the U.S. 24 corridor, before quickly diminishing in intensity tonight.

A winter weather advisory for snow and blowing snow means that visibility will be limited due to strong winds blowing the snow around. Motorists should be prepared for snow-covered roads and limited visibility and use caution.
