Brotherhood Mutual to build new building, add 100 jobs

Payroll service for churches key in expansion plan

Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Co. today announced plans to invest $15 million in a new office building and create 102 jobs within the next four years.

The Fort Wayne-based insurance company owns a 30-acre campus at 6400 Brotherhood Way, near Interstate 69 and Coldwater Road on the city's north side.

The local employer will construct and equip a 54,395-square-foot office building at the site and connect it to the existing headquarters with a skywalk. Construction is scheduled to begin in April and expected to be completed in March 2014.

Brotherhood Mutual, which employs almost 270 locally, sells insurance policies to churches and related ministries to cover losses related to property, liability, workers' compensation, commercial auto and foreign travel.

This year the company added a payroll service for churches. Growth in that area is behind the latest expansion, officials said.
