An Avilla man was hurt Thursday when his snowmobile's throttle stuck open and crashed into a small tree, Indiana conservation officers said.
Christopher W. Hackman, 57, was treated at the scene for a leg injury and was taken to a Fort Wayne hospital for additional treatment, conservation officers said in a statement.
The statement said Hackman was working on a snowmobile about 11 a.m. in a garage west of his home in the 5500 block of East Baseline Road.
He was sitting on the snowmobile when he started it, the statement said, but the throttle stuck open, causing the snowmobile to accelerate out of the garage.
The snowmobile traveled about 100 yards northeast before striking the tree head-on, the statement said. It said Hackman was thrown from the snowmobile upon impact.
Noble County EMS, the county sheriff's department and the Albion and Avilla fire departments assisted at the scene, the statement said.
