City crews kept busy battling 2 house fires

– House fires kept Fort Wayne firefighters on the run Friday morning.

Fire crews responded to blazes at 633 Woodland Springs Place and 4512 Lillie St. before noon.

While returning from a fatal fire on Auburn Road in northern Allen County (see related story on Page 1A), crews spotted an apparent house fire on Woodland Springs, near Wallen and Lima roads about 10 a.m. The one-story structure had flames on the first floor that extended into the attic.

No one was home, and it took crews about seven minutes to bring the fire under control. The home sustained heavy fire and smoke damage and moderate water damage, the department said.

A little more than an hour later, crews were called to Lillie Street near South Anthony and East Rudisill boulevards for a one-story structure fire. As firefighters arrived, they found smoke and flames coming from the front of the home.

After entering, crews found that the fire had spread into an adjacent room and the attic, the department said.

Crews arrived at 11:19 a.m. and had the fire under control in less than 10 minutes. No one was home at the time of the blaze, the fire department said.

Both fires remain under investigation.
