Veterans and city officials gathered Friday to rededicate the WWI Memorial moved to McCulloch Park, which has been on the fenced-in grounds of nearby General Electric for 89 years. The memorial was erected on Nov. 11, 1924, in honor of the 748 FortA Kendallville man was arrested Saturday after he was caught speeding through the parking lot of the Kendallville YMCA and nearly hitting two young children, the Indiana State Police said.
Andrew A. Kissinger, 36, was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, operating while intoxicated/endangerment, criminal recklessness, reckless driving and criminal trespassing, according to a news release from the Indiana State Police.
According to the release, an off-duty Indiana State Police trooper spotted Kissinger speeding through the parking lot of the Cole YMCA in a white 2000 Dodge Durango at approximately 4:45 p.m.
Kissinger drove up and over an embankment, through a pile of snow and onto the sidewalk, narrowly missing two children as he drove toward East Noble High School, the release said. The Trooper John Silver followed Kissinger's vehicle toward to school where he watched as the Durango drove through the front lawn of the high school and continued south on Henry Street, the release said. Kissinger then drove into a vacant grassy area and began going in circles until he appeared to get stuck, according to the release.
Kissinger, later tested positive for amphetamines and opiates at a local hospital. He was arrested and taken to the Noble County Jail. He was being held in lieu of $3,500 bail, the release said.
