Fort Wayne police investigate a shooting death Monday at Antiques on Broadway, 1115 Broadway.

Man found shot to death in Broadway antique store

A customer went into an antique store near downtown Monday evening and discovered a dead man who had suffered a gunshot wound, Fort Wayne police said.

The customer, who was a regular, entered Antiques on Broadway and did not see any employees, said Sgt. Mark Brooks, a police spokesman.

He looked around and eventually found the man with a gunshot wound. The customer then went next door and called 911, Brooks said.

Police were sent to the antique store at 1115 Broadway, near West Jefferson Boulevard, shortly after 5 p.m.

The man was declared dead at the scene. Brooks said police do not believe he had been dead for a long time.

The victim's identity was not released. Brooks said he believed the store had just one employee Monday evening but could not confirm the victim was an employee.

The store was scheduled to be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday. Inside, police found nothing knocked over or out of place, Brooks said.

As of Monday night, investigators had not come across anything that suggested the shooting occurred during a robbery, he said.

No gun had been found, but officers were still searching the store, he said. No arrests were made.
