Neighbor: Curve worried couple killed in house

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — An Evansville woman says she's complained for years about vehicles speeding through a curve where a pickup truck when through a guardrail and into a house, killing the couple inside.

Authorities say 24-year-old Thomas Hodgson of Newburgh was killed in the crash early Sunday that saw his truck go completely through the house. Police believe 75-year-old Homer Merriweather and 74-year-old Lela Merriweather were asleep in their bedroom when they were struck and killed.

Neighbor Mary Ellen Coker tells WFIE-TV the Merriweathers worried about their home sitting along the curve of a residential street and that many drivers take it too fast.

Police Sgt. Jason Cullum tells the Evansville Courier & Press that the crash's circumstances remained under investigation.
