Amanda Hyde had 25 points and eight rebounds as the IPFW women’s basketball team beat Western Illinois 80-49 to pick up its first Summit League win of the season Sunday at Gates Sports Center.

Erin Murphy added 21 points and three steals for the Mastodons (5-9, 1-1). Stefanie Mauk had 17 points and three steals.

IPFW scored 24 points off of 21 Western Illinois turnovers.

Ashley Luke led Western Illinois (7-6, 1-1) with 12 points.

IPFW held Western Illinois to 27.9 percent shooting from the floor. Western Illinois made just 12 field goals all game.

No. 4 DUKE 73, MONMOUTH 32: In Durham, N.C., Tricia Liston scored 15 points for Duke, and Monmouth tied a Division I record with three points in the first half.

The overmatched Hawks managed just one field goal in the opening 20 minutes against the Blue Devils (11-0).

Monmouth (3-8) matched the NCAA’s halftime scoring mark set in 2003 by Savannah State against Florida State and equaled by Tennessee State two years ago against Georgia Tech.

No. 7 KENTUCKY 78, MARIST 56: In Lexington, Ky., Jennifer O’Neill scored a career-high 21 points, and Kentucky won its 11th game in a row.

DeNesha Stallworth also had 21 points for the Wildcats (12-1), who came out sluggish. Kentucky trailed just twice early on but didn’t gain its usual comfortable lead until late in the game.

No. 13 TENNESSEE 66, RUTGERS 47: In Knoxville, Tenn., Tennessee used a strong defensive performance and balanced scoring to notch its NCAA best 1,200th victory.

No. 14 OKLAHOMA ST. 80, SAN DIEGO ST. 72: In San Diego, Toni Young scored 30 points and Liz Donohoe scored 25 to lead Oklahoma State and take the Surf ’N Slam Classic title.

Young also had 15 rebounds. Tiffany Bias had 12 points and 13 assists as the Cowboys (11-0) ran their nation-best winning streak to 17 dating to last season’s WNIT championship.

BOWLING GREEN 65, No. 15 DAYTON 40: In Bowling Green, Ohio, Alexis Rogers scored 20 points as Bowling Green handed Dayton its first defeat.

Rogers, a junior forward, has 83 points in her last four games for the Falcons (9-3), who have won six in a row and avenged a 69-38 loss at Dayton (12-1) last season.

Chrissy Steffen added 16 points and Jillian Halfhill 15 for Bowling Green.

No. 16 NORTH CAROLINA 65, CLEMSON 58: In Clemson, S.C., Xylina McDaniel scored 19 points and had six steals as North Carolina used a key 19-2 second-half run to come back in each team’s Atlantic Coast Conference opener.

The Tar Heels (13-1) trailed 43-35 after Chancie Dunn’s layup for Clemson. McDaniel responded with a layup with 12:20 left, sparking the 19-2 run that put UNC up 54-45 with 6:23 to play.

McDaniel scored eight points during the run, which came amid 15 consecutive missed shots by the Tigers. Clemson (4-8) made just 4 of 21 field goals over the game’s final 14 minutes.

CENTRAL MICHIGAN 73, No. 20 TEXAS 65: In San Diego, Niki DiGuilio scored 21 points to lead Central Michigan in the consolation game of the Maggie Dixon Surf N Slam Classic.

DiGuilio was 5 of 8 from three-point range. Jessica Schroll added 14 points for Central Michigan (6-6).

No. 21 FLORIDA STATE 76, BOSTON COLLEGE 70: In Tallahassee, Fla., Alexa Deluzio continued to be a thorn in Boston College’s side, guiding Florida State to its fourth straight victory in each team’s Atlantic Coast Conference opener.

Deluzio, who scored a career-high 28 points at BC (6-5) in a 68-59 win last year, tallied 25 points and 12 rebounds Sunday.

Natasha Howard also had a double-double for the Seminoles (11-1) with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

ILLINOIS STATE 65, BUTLER 57: In Indianapolis, Illinois State scored the game’s final eight points to overcome the Bulldogs’ Liz Stratman’s 16 points, eight rebounds and five blocks.

Taylor Schippers scored 13 points. Hannah Douglas and Daress McClung finished with 12 and 10 points for the Bulldogs (7-6).

Men

INDIANA ST. 77, ILLINOIS ST. 75: In Terre Haute, Justin Gant had 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead Indiana State in the Missouri Valley Conference opener for both teams.

Jake Odum had 17 points and six assists for the Sycamores (8-4), who were coming off a third-place finish in the Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu.

Odum hit the game-winning basket in overtime against Miami in the consolation game.

Devonte Brown added 12 points and Manny Arop scored 10 for Indiana State.

Jon Ekey led Illinois State (9-4) with 16 points. Jackie Carmichael had 13 points and 14 rebounds for the Redbirds, whose four-game winning streak ended.

A last-second three-point try by Illinois State’s Nick Zeisloft missed.
