Veterans and city officials gathered Friday to rededicate the WWI Memorial moved to McCulloch Park, which has been on the fenced-in grounds of nearby General Electric for 89 years. The memorial was erected on Nov. 11, 1924, in honor of the 748 FortFriday Parade’s summer reading issue, distributed with this Sunday’s print edition of The Journal Gazette, features Stephen King.Friday Memorial Day weekend observances in Fort Wayne, northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio. The first unit on the scene discovered smoke upon entering the home and found a fire in a wall behind the fireplace. The exterior of the house was opened up to extinguish the blaze, which was brought under control at 3:02 a.m.
The occupant of the home had evacuated and no injuries were reported. Damage to the home was minor and the cause remains under investigation.
