Early-morning fire damages city home

Fort Wayne firefighters were called to the scene of a structure fire at 2:31 a.m. Tuesday at 1837 Howell St.

The first unit on the scene discovered smoke upon entering the home and found a fire in a wall behind the fireplace. The exterior of the house was opened up to extinguish the blaze, which was brought under control at 3:02 a.m.

The occupant of the home had evacuated and no injuries were reported. Damage to the home was minor and the cause remains under investigation.
