Antique-store beating victim ID'd

A Fort Wayne man found Monday in an antique store on Broadway has been identified as the victim of a fatal beating, the Allen County coroner's office said today.

J. Robert Shimer, 58, died from blunt-force trauma of the head, and his death is the 30th homicide for Fort Wayne and Allen County during 2012, the coroner's office said in a statement.

A customer found Shimer about 5 p.m. Monday in Antiques on Broadway, 1115 Broadway, Fort Wayne police have said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The homicide remains under investigation by Fort Wayne police, the coroner's office and the county prosecutor's office.
