FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – In a BCS championship game that matches two of college football’s most historically successful programs, Monday’s contest could come down to an old-school matchup in the middle of the offensive and defensive lines.
Alabama All-American Barrett Jones, who won the Rimington Award as the nation’s top center, and Notre Dame nose guard Louis Nix III will be a matchup to watch in the title game.
Jones, a 6-foot-5, 302-pound senior, is returning for an injured left ankle that kept him out of practice until Tuesday, but he says he will be fine and ready to play against the Irish.
Nix, a 6-3, 326-pound junior, had 45 tackles with 5 ½ tackles for loss this season.
“He’s pretty big,” Jones said of Nix. “He’s got really got size to him, but he’s got really good foot quickness for how large he is. He uses his hands very well. He’s a really good player, probably the best nose guard I’ve played against all year.”
