FORT LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla. – After a slight mishap with the media bus, we arrived a few minutes late for Notre Dame's first practice in Florida for the BCS championship game Thursday.
On a sunny, 80-degree day, the No. 1 Irish (12-0), who play No. 2 Alabama (12-1) on Monday, worked out at the Miami Dolphins practice facility at Nova Southeastern University.
Everett Golson and Tommy Rees shared time at quarterback with the first team, with Golson getting the majority of the snaps.
Receiver DaVaris Daniels was working with the first team, and the sophomore didn't appear to be out of step as he returns from a broken clavicle that cost him the last two games of the regular season.
Daniels did have a misstep near the end of the 15-minute viewing session by not running a route at the correct length. Offensive coordinator Chuck Martin was quick to point that out to Daniels, saying, "You got to run the route at the right depth, or we got no chance. You can't break it off at 16."
There were no surprise injuries or absences to report from practice.
There was one change with a number, but it likely isn't permanent.
Freshman quarterback Gunner Kiel was wearing No. 10 instead of No. 1. Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron wears No. 10, and Kiel is likely playing the Crimson Tide quarterback for the scout team.
