Rookie defenseman Daniel Maggio was selected to play in the ECHL All-Star Game on Jan. 23, when the stars take on the host Colorado Eagles.
And forward Brandon Marino was completely snubbed.
Maggio, 23, has four goals, 14 points (which isn't in the top 20 among blue-liners) and he leads all ECHL defensemen with 119 penalty minutes. He has a plus-6 rating in 32 games.
The reserves were chosen by coaches. In the game, the ECHL wants to showcase young talent. Nine rookies were picked.
Marino, 26, is fourth in the league in scoring with 40 points, second if you count players only currently on active rosters. He has 10 goals and a plus-8 rating in 33 games.
I'm not trying to slight Maggio, who has been among the best hitters in the league, is a rising star and has been an anchor for Fort Wayne, but I cannot fathom how Marino isn't on the roster.
What do you think?
