The Dish

  • New name, menu for golf club restaurant
When people started talking, Alan Buck knew they were onto something. The member of the Coyote Creek Golf Club board of directors says they recently revamped the club’s dining experience.
  • Downtown Deli to close as owner exits
Fans of Downtown Deli and Marketplace were sad and crushed to learn that the restaurant nestled inside Cottage Flowers will be closing Friday.
  • Pizzas straight from farm
HOPE CSA isn’t joking when they say their pizzas are fresh from the farm. Made with locally sourced ingredients and cooked in an outdoor, wood-fired brick oven, the pies are served on the Hawkins Family Farm, 10373 N. 300 E.

Restaurant and menu news: Mexican, Bob Evans, Red Angel Pizza

A new Mexican restaurant is set to open on Coldwater Road, in the space formerly occupied by Ali Baba's Grille, Maza Grille and Sun Rise Café. There are handmade neon cardboard signs in the window at 10812 Coldwater Road that say Los Cabos Mexican Grill is "coming soon."

* Red Angel Pizza, the pizza and vegan/vegetarian restaurant at 9011 Lima Road, appears to have closed. The sign out front has been taken down and the inside appeared bare as of earlier this week.

Once a part of a chain with 14 stores, the Fort Wayne location had been one of only two Red Angels left as of May 2012, according to Journal Gazette archives. The remaining location, in Paulding, Ohio, did not answer its phone as of this morning.

* Today, Bob Evans is introducing new menu items focusing on healthful choices, according to a written statement from the company. The menu now includes $9.99 three-course dinners under 450 calories. This limited-time offering includes a mix-and-match appetizer, entree and dessert. The restaurant has also introduced a gluten-free menu.

"At Bob Evans, we're transforming our brand from the inside out," says Steve Davis, Bob Evans Farms, Inc., chairman and CEO, in the press release. "Our guests tell us ... they appreciate our new healthful menu choices."

There are at least four Bob Evans locations in Fort Wayne and others throughout northeast Indiana.
