Arrest made in post office robbery try

A Fort Wayne man was arrested Wednesday in connection with the Dec. 19 attempted robbery of a post office on the city’s east side, officials said.

Julius W. Lawson, 34, was arrested by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Fort Wayne Police Department’s Gang Unit and Violent Crimes Unit.

He faces a federal robbery charge resulting from the attempted robbery of the Diplomat Station post office, 4171 Hessen Cassel Road, according to a release from the Fort Wayne Police Department.

Lawson was being held at the Allen County Jail without bail.

A second suspect in the robbery attempt remains at large. Anyone with information about the second person can call the Fort Wayne Police Department at 427-1222.

The robbery attempt remains under investigation by the Postal Inspection Service and the Fort Wayne Police Department’s Investigative Division.
