Irish land safety

Notre Dame added another major piece for its defensive backfield future Friday night.

Max Redfield, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound safety from Mission Viejo (Calif.) High School, orally committed to the Irish during the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, which was televised on ESPN.

Redfield is a five-star prospect, according to Rivals.com, and he is the 23rd player to join Notre Dame's 2013 recruiting class.
