No. 7 Saint Francis women fall to No. 16 Bethel in overtime

FORT WAYNE – For the second time in three games, the once-unconquered Saint Francis women were conquered Saturday.

This time it was No. 16 Bethel that took down the No. 7 Cougars, 80-71 in overtime.

Overcoming an early 16-point deficit, the Cougars (15-2, 4-1 Crossroads League) sent it to overtime on Jenelle Wilson’s free throws with 28 seconds remaining in regulation.

Saint Francis led 64-63 early in the overtime. But Bethel (14-3, 4-1) outscored the Cougars 17-7 from there.

Kayla Drake led the Cougars with 20 points and Wilson (16), Skylarr Shurn (13) and Brooke Ridley (11) also scored in double figures.

Men

TRINE 83, ALMA 76: Ian Jackson poured in 32 points to lead Trine (9-4, 2-0 MIAA) at Alma.

Scott Rogers added 21 for the Thunder.

INDIANA TECH 68, NORTHWESTERN OHIO 64: The Warriors (13-3, 6-2 WHAC) outscored Northwestern Ohio (9-6, 5-3) 44-35 in the second half in Lima, Ohio.

Antonio Cannon scored 18 points and Jeff Hoskins 16 to lead Tech.

BETHEL 65, SAINT FRANCIS 60: Despite Scott Kohne’s 10th double-double of the season (14 points, 10 rebounds), the Cougars (11-6, 3-2 Crossroads League) sustained their fourth loss in five games.

Bethel, on the other hand, won its ninth straight to remain unbeaten in the CL (14-3, 5-0).

HUNTINGTON 82, MOUNT VERNON NAZARENE 69: At Huntington, five players hit double figures for the Foresters (11-6, 2-3), led by Shane Merryman’s 23 points.

Women

NEBRASKA-OMAHA 60, IPFW 50: In Omaha, Neb., Amanda Hyde scored 20 points and Erin Murphy 14, but the Mastodons couldn’t overcome 34 percent shooting.

INDIANA TECH 79, NORTHWESTERN OHIO 76: Ulyssia Richmond scored 22 points, Rachael Kruse 18 and Chelsea Carradine 15 with 14 rebounds to lead Tech (7-10, 5-4 in WHAC) at Lima, Ohio. Tech trailed 39-25 at the half but shot .630 (17-of-27) in a 54-point second half.

EARLHAM 41, MANCHESTER 39: In Richmond, Earlham (2-11, 1-5) won for just the second time despite shooting 25 percent. Manchester (5-8, 4-2) was led by Janelle Moss with 14 points.

MT. VERNON NAZARENE 63, HUNTINGTON 61: Amelia Recker’s 19 points and 14 from Pazia Speed weren’t enough for Huntington (9-6, 2-3) at Mount Vernon, Ohio.

CALVIN COLLEGE 64, TRINE 36: Second-ranked Calvin built a 37-23 halftime lead at Angola. Alivia Recker’s 13 points led Trine.
