Hog prices surged this week as the market prepared for Memorial Day weekend, typically a period of high demand.Starbucks Corp. has rolled out a $1 reusable plastic cup at its cafes.
The coffee chain from Seattle already gives customers a dime discount each time they bring in reusable cups for refills. Now it’s hoping the new cups – which bear its logo and resemble its white paper cups – will boost the habit.
As with other reusable cups, the new cups will be cleaned with boiling water each time customers bring them in. The cups were tested in the Pacific Northwest and will be rolled out nationwide and in Canada.
In 2008, Starbucks had said it wanted to serve 25 percent of all drinks in reusable cups by 2015. That goal has since been reduced to 5 percent.
Exec steps down from posts at GE Lighting unit
The president and CEO of GE Lighting Europe, Middle East and Africa is leaving the company to pursue a position elsewhere.
GE Lighting said last week that Agostino Renna will succeed Phil Marshall, effective immediately. The 42-year-old Marshall had served in the posts since 2008.
Renna will report to GE Lighting President and CEO Maryrose Sylvester. Renna, 39, most recently was vice president of growth and market strategy for GE-Canada.
GE Lighting is part of General Electric Co., which has operations in Fort Wayne.
