A Hicksville, Ohio, man was injured Thursday when his truck drove off Indiana 8 in DeKalb County, struck a tree and overturned, the county sheriff's department said.Three people were injured and two vehicles declared total losses after a crash Monday afternoon on Interstate 69 in DeKalb County, according to police.
At 2:42 p.m. both vehicles were northbound near the 323.5 mile-marker, just south of Auburn, the DeKalb County Police Department said in a written statement. Wendell Rockwell, 60, of Portland, was in the righthand lane when he apparently hit the brakes suddenly and attempted to change lanes in a 2006 Dodge minivan, police said. A 2003 Chevy Suburban driven by Maurice S. Byall, 59, of Fort Wayne, then struck Rockwell's minivan, the statement said.
Byall told officers at the scene it appeared that Rockwell was trying to move over to reach the median's emergency vehicle turnaround, according to the statement.
Rockwell and his passenger were taken by DeKalb EMS to Parkview Regional Medical Center for treatment. He suffered a broken clavicle and fractured ribs. Rockwell's passenger complained of minor abdominal pain, according to the statement.
Byall suffered minor swelling in his hand and a sore chest but did not seek medical attention, police said.
DeKalb County officials were assisted by the Indiana State Police, DeKalb EMS and the Auburn Fire Department.
