Lottery tickets taken in liquor shop theft

Several display cases holding lottery tickets were stolen from a liquor store in Southgate shopping center during a smash-and-grab burglary early Monday, according to a Fort Wayne police report.

An alarm at Belmont Beverage, 134 E. Pettit Ave., sent officers to the store about 2:30 a.m. They arrived to find the front glass door shattered and a significant amount of lottery tickets missing, the report said.

Police alerted area gas stations to the theft in case someone tried to cash the tickets before they were entered into the lottery system as stolen, the report said.
