Jewelry store loss: $15,655

A Fort Wayne woman has admitted to stealing more than $15,000 in cash, checks and jewelry from her employer, according to court documents.

Ashley Messmer, 26, worked at Fred Meyer Jewelers in the Kroger super store at 5725 Coventry Lane, authorities said.

Between September and Dec. 28, when her employment ended, Messmer stole $15,655 in cash, checks and jewelry from the jewelry store.

When a Kroger security officer confronted her, she admitted to the theft and said she had pawned the stolen jewelry, court papers stated.

Messmer, of the 6100 block of Downington Drive, was charged with felony theft. She was released Monday from the Allen County Jail on her own recognizance.
