I'm hearing a lot of griping by fans and even players that we're watching SPHL hockey right now.
I don't agree.
Let's not forget that, were it not for the lockout, a lot of these guys who have been called up around the league would have been in the ECHL to begin with.
Players like Brayden Metz and Mike Hoban were in the Komets' training camp at a time when they believed the lockout might end early.
Now what we're seeing right now in the ECHL isn't strictly indicative of what we'll see a little later on -- NHL training camps have more players called up -- but I think it's near-sighted to believe that none of these guys belong in the ECHL.
Get used to it, some of these guys are here to stay.
That's my opinion, anyway.
As for today's game between the Komets and Cincinnati, Kenny Reiter will be in net against, surprisingly, Brian Foster. Michael Houser is 3-0 against Fort Wayne, so it's surprising they are going with Foster.
By the way, you know who signed with Elmira? Former Komets player Kelly Miller. And they have him listed as a defenseman, though I'm not sure if that's accurate.
