It’s because … well, you’ve taken him back a ways.FORT WAYNE – The Department of Natural Resources needs 38 volunteers to work on trails this summer, as part of the Indiana Heritage Corps program.
Volunteers will receive housing, a living allowance of $340 per month, an education stipend ($1,468 before taxes) and hands-on experience, as well as a chance to earn college internship credit and live at a state park.
The state parks that will have IHC are Pokagon in Angola, Fort Harrison in Indianapolis, Brown County in Nashville and O’Bannon Woods in Corydon.
IHC members will clean, restore and construct 25 cumulative miles of trail in the four parks.
Candidates should be at least 17 years old, U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents, be able to pass a strict FBI background check and be able to make a commitment of Monday through Friday, May 13 to Aug. 16.

Cowboy Gathering at Salamonie Lake
There will be an evening of food and fellowship for horse-minded folks on Feb. 23, at the Salamonie Lake Cowboy Gathering.
Running from 5:30 to 8 p.m., visitors can enjoy a presentation on riding trails at Big South Fork and Zenith Campground in Tennessee. Stew and soft drinks will be provided. Visitors should bring a dish to pass. Registration is required by calling 468-2127. The regular entrance fee of $5 per in-state vehicle or $7 per out-of-state vehicle applies.
