‘Cloud Atlas’ among GLAAD media nominees

GLAAD has named the film “Cloud Atlas,” AMC’s reality show “Small Town Security,” and the New Yorker magazine among its nominees for the 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards.

Other nominees include the NBC shows “Smash” and “The New Normal,” Frank Ocean for his “Channel Orange” album, the magazine People en Espanol and Oprah Winfrey’s interview with Neil Patrick Harris and partner David Burtka.

The awards are meant to recognize and honor media for outstanding images of the gay and lesbian community. The winners will be announced March 16.

Oxygen backs off contentious special

Oxygen Media has pulled the plug on “All My Babies’ Mamas,” a reality special the network was developing about a musician who has fathered 11 children with 10 mothers.

The network offered no reason for curtailing the project. In a statement issued Tuesday, Oxygen said that after reviewing the show’s casting, the decision was made “not to move forward.”

The one-hour project would have featured Atlanta rap artist Shawty Lo, his children and their mothers.

“All My Babies’ Mamas” was met with controversy after Oxygen announced it last month. At least one petition that called for Oxygen to shut it down has collected more than 37,000 signatures. The Parents Television Council called the concept “grotesquely irresponsible and exploitive.”

Oxygen promised to continue to develop “compelling content.”
