Controversy ensues

The Komets and Toledo Walleye are scoreless after one period at Memorial Coliseum, where both teams have eight shots.

But the Komets did have a goal, from Brett Smith, only to have it disallowed by referee Chris Pitoscia. He ruled that it was played in by Smith's glove. My video seems to show that Smith, who was at the right post, swatted at the puck in mid-air and then tipped it off the goalie and in with his stick.

Touch call, but I think the correct one. Smith made no attempt to catch and drop the puck.

By the way, the Komets no longer announce the starting lineups of opposing teams. But couldn't they have done it tonight with Stephon Thorne in the lineup for Toledo? Would have been classy.

I must say, I miss seeing Andrej Nestrasil of Toledo. And not just because he's a Red Wings prospect. He was exciting before being called up.
