Indiana teen faked attempted abduction story

COLUMBUS, Ind. (AP) — South-central Indiana police say a teenage girl who claimed a man tried to lure her into a van as she walked to school has admitted making up the story.

Columbus police spokesman Lt. Matt Myers says the girl told detectives she concocted the story about Thursday's alleged incident because she was seeking attention. Myers tells The Republic the girl has not been arrested.

He says the middle school student told a school guidance counselor of the alleged incident, which prompted a call to police.

Columbus police detectives determined during a follow-up interview with the girl that she had made up the attempted abduction story. Myers says detectives also reviewed surveillance cameras, which did not indicate an incident had occurred.
