The elderly couple told police they had been duped out of thousands of dollars and that their Social Security checks were diverted to Georgia, which gave detectives their first real clue.A 73-year-old woman died in a car crash Saturday afternoon in Whitley County, according to a sheriff's department report.
Donna J. Rose of South Whitley was headed west on County Road 500 South near County Road 800 West about 2:45 p.m. when the 2003 Chevrolet Impala she was driving went off the road and hit a tree, the report said.
Rose died at the scene, the report said. What caused her to leave the road is under investigation.
