A Warsaw man was badly hurt Friday morning when he jumped from a moving pickup truck during an argument with his father, according to the Kosciusko County Sheriffs Department.
Jerry Belcher, 21, was a passenger in the truck, a Dodge Ram quad cab driven by his father. The two were headed to work, and they got into an argument that gradually intensified, police said.
While traveling north on County Road 800 West, south of Nappanee, Belcher suddenly opened the front passenger door and leapt from the truck. His father stopped right away, went back and found his son along the road. A third person in the trucks back seat confirmed this version of events, police said.
About 5:40 a.m., emergency crews were dispatched to County Road 800 West, just south of County Road 850 North.
Unconscious and suffering from extensive head injuries, Belcher was flown in critical condition to South Bend Memorial Hospital.
The matter remains under investigation.
