CHICAGO – Matt Garza and the Cubs agreed to a $10.25 million, one-year contract that avoids salary arbitration.
Creative Artists Agency, which represents the right-hander, announced the deal Thursday night on Twitter. Garza also posted on his account, Business side over! Hooray! Time to focus on what really matters 2013.
Also, Cubs pitchers Jeff Samardzija and James Russell agreed to one-year contracts and avoided arbitration.
White Sox sign pair
The White Sox agreed to one-year contracts with second baseman Gordon Beckham and outfielder Alejandro De Aza to avoid arbitration.

Detroit signed six players, including right-hander Doug Fister, center fielder Austin Jackson, catcher Alex Avila, right-hander Rick Porcello, left-hander Phil Coke and outfielder Brennan Boesch.
Cleveland signed All-Star closer Chris Perez, starter Justin Masterson, relievers Joe Smith and Matt Albers, outfielder Drew Stubbs and catcher Lou Marson.
Cincinnati and Logan Ondrusek agreed to a two-year contract. Philadelphia agreed with left-hander Antonio Bastardo. Left-hander Boone Logan and the Yankees agreed to a one-year contract. Tampa Bay agreed to one-year deals with right-handed pitcher Jeff Niemann and infielder Ryan Roberts, along with outfielders Matt Joyce and Sam Fuld.
Milwaukee first baseman Corey Hart will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee next week and will be out for the next three to four months. Also, the Brewers agreed to a one-year contract with John Axford. St. Louis agreed with pitchers Mitchell Boggs and Edward Mujica on one-year contracts. Washington agreed to a one-year deal with left-handed starter Ross Detwiler.
Boston signed Jacoby Ellsbury to a $9 million, one-year contract. The Red Sox also agreed to terms with right-handers Alfredo Aceves, Andrew Bailey, Daniel Bard, and Joel Hanrahan, as well as left-handers Andrew Miller, and Franklin Morales.
Buster Posey reached an agreement with San Francisco on a one-year, $8 million contract. Baltimore agreed to terms with catcher Matt Wieters, infielder Chris Davis and left-handed pitchers Brian Matusz and Troy Patton. Kansas City signed righty Luke Hochevar to a one-year, $4.56 million deal. Arizona reached agreement on a one-year, $4,265,000 contract with right-hander Ian Kennedy.
