Brady’s foot-up slide irks Pollard

– Tom Brady’s foot-up slide in the AFC championship game did not sit well with Baltimore Ravens strong safety Bernard Pollard.

During the final minute of the first half, Brady slid to the ground to end of an impromptu run. The quarterback’s upraised leg hit onrushing Ravens free safety Ed Reed, who emerged from the play without injury.

But Pollard, a former South Side and Purdue star, believes Brady should be disciplined by the NFL, which levies fines on defensive players for helmet-to-helmet hits.

Pollard said Monday, “If you want to keep this going in the right direction, everyone should be penalized for their actions.”

He said Brady “knew what he was doing. It has to go both ways. Hopefully the NFL will do something about it. If they don’t, that’s fine. If they do, then that’s fine.”

Caldwell staying

Jim Caldwell will remain the Baltimore Ravens’ offensive coordinator next season.

Caldwell, the former Colts coach, moved from quarterbacks coach to offensive coordinator Dec. 9 after coach John Harbaugh fired Cam Cameron, a former IU coach.

Cards add staff

New Arizona coach Bruce Arians filled his top assistant coaching positions by hiring Todd Bowles as defensive coordinator, Harold Goodwin as offensive coordinator and Tom Moore as assistant head coach/offense.

Pro Bowl for Luck

Andrew Luck and Peyton Manning will get a chance to be teammates after all – at Sunday’s Pro Bowl. Luck replaces New England’s Tom Brady, who has an undisclosed injury.
