Plea deal drops Ecstasy charge

A man initially charged with dealing Ecstasy will have that count dropped in return for pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Russell Cowherd, 32, accepted the plea agreement in U.S. District Court on Tuesday, according to court documents. While he faces a maximum of 10 years in prison, the plea agreement calls for him to receive 70 months instead, according to court documents.

Cowherd and 22-year-old Michael Banks were indicted last year on one count of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance known as Ecstasy as well as being a felon in possession of a firearm.

This month, Banks accepted a plea deal giving him a 50-month sentence for being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to court records.
