Key matchup: If Gaines is to break out of a shooting slump, this could be the game. The last time IPFW played IUPUI (an 88-74 IUPUI win Dec. 27 in Indianapolis), Gaines torched the Jaguars for 28 points – his third-highest total this season. Since then, Gaines has surpassed his 18-point average just one other time.

The skinny: IPFW has lost four of its last five games, including its last two. Thursday, the Mastodons fell 43-40 to Western Illinois at the Gates Center. … After winning its first seven home games, IPFW has dropped its last two. … The game is the second of a doubleheader. The IPFW women will face Oakland at 4:30 p.m.
