Man critical after rig runs over him

A slow-moving tractor-trailer rig ran over a 27-year-old man and badly injured him Monday night in north Fort Wayne, city police said.

Paramedics and police were dispatched at 8:10 p.m., and the victim was taken to a hospital and listed in critical but stable condition, police said.

Investigators learned the truck driver had turned east onto the frontage road along the 2500 block of West Coliseum Boulevard, near Goshen Road and Interstate 69, and had not seen the man on the side of the road, police said.

The rig, which was pulling two trailers, ran over the man at a low speed. He was wearing dark, non-reflective clothes at the time. A drizzle was falling, and visibility was less than a quarter-mile. Those factors likely played a role in the crash, police said.

The identities of the driver and pedestrian were not released.
