South Bend to use iPads in try to reduce paper use

SOUTH BEND – South Bend is going to try to conduct official city business on iPads instead of paper in an effort to save money and improve communications with residents.

The South Bend Tribune reports all nine members of the South Bend Common Council and the council attorney have been given iPads to access budgets and other information. Council President Derek Dieter also announced at a news conference Thursday that the council has launched a Facebook page as another tool to improve communications with the public.

Tim Scott, chairman of the council’s Information and Technology Committee, says the iPads also will enable council members to access information and data more quickly.
