Statement as issued Friday by Indiana Right to Life president and CEO Mike Fichter:
“The Obama administration mistakenly believes that it can play God in determining whose freedoms are protected and whose are not,” said Fichter. “The reported change in the HHS Mandate fails to recognize the liberties of all Americans in determining whether or not to provide coverage for abortion-causing drugs and therefore falls far short of being acceptable. The HHS Mandate must be completely repealed.”
The Obama administration announced some religious-affiliated entities would be allowed to opt-out of the HHS Mandate, but this change does not address companies whose owners oppose the HHS Mandate on moral grounds. The HHS Mandate requires employers to provide insurance plans covering birth control, abortion-causing drugs and sterilizations.
Indiana Right to Life’s mission is to protect the right to life, especially of unborn children, through positive education, compassionate advocacy and promotion of healthy alternatives to abortion.
