IU defeats No. 1 Michigan

Another visiting No. 1 team went down at Assembly Hall.

Indiana knocked off top-ranked Michigan 81-73 Saturday at Assembly Hall.

Cody Zeller had 19 points and nine rebounds for the No. 3 Hoosiers. The victory, coupled with Kansas' loss to Oklahoma State, will likely put IU back to No. 1 in The Associated Press poll. The poll is released Monday.

For now, Indiana will have to settle for taking sole possession of first place in the Big Ten.

Last year, IU knocked off No. 1 Kentucky at Assembly Hall. Another No. 1 team returned to Assembly Hall on Saturday. The game lived up to all the hype.

Michigan fought back from a 15-point deficit to tie the game at 40. The Hoosiers responded with an 11-0 run.

The Wolverines got back within two points with 7:36 to go. But Zeller made back-to-back dunks to energize the crowd and help hold off Michigan.
