Crash results in drunk driving arrest

– A woman delivering newspapers in Steuben County was injured when her car was struck from the rear after she had stopped to make a delivery, police said.

About 4:10 a.m. Saturday, Brittany Gray, 24, of Coldwater Mich., had stopped to deliver a newspaper to a residence in the 2200 block of north SR 327, when a northbound car driven by Daniel Hose, 24, of Wolcottville struck the left rear of Gray's Ford Escape.

Hose, who told police he did not see Gray's car at the edge of the road, was later arrested for driving while intoxicated after undergoing a blood alcohol test at the Steuben County Jail.

The collision sent Hose's Pontiac Grand Prix off the east side of the roadway, where it struck a tree and came to rest in the middle of the roadway facing west.

Gray was transported to Cameron Hospital in Angola for injuries to her shoulder and leg. A passenger in her vehicle, Brandon Heiney, 23, of Coldwater Mich., complained of head pain but refused medical treatment at the scene.

Hose complained of pain to his ankle but also refused medical treatment at the scene.

Assisting the Steuben County sheriff's office at the scene were the Orland Police, Steuben County EMS, Orland Fire Department and Steuben County Communications.
