ANDERSON, Ind. – An Anderson man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for shooting a police dog after robbing a bank.
WRTV-TV reports (http://bit.ly/VGYeow) that Joseph Turner pleaded guilty last month to charges of armed robbery, criminal recklessness, resisting law enforcement and striking a law enforcement animal.
Turner robbed a PNC Bank in Anderson in August then fled the scene on a bicycle. Police sent their canine Magnum into a field to track Turner after the dog picked up his scent.
Turner shot the dog in the face. Magnum was rushed to emergency surgery g but had to be euthanized.
Turner also was sentenced to six years on probation.
