Statement as issued by the U.S. Postal Service:
INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Two tourist destinations are the settings for the opening of Village Post Offices (VPO) on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013.
Wolf Lake is the oldest town in Noble County. The town is located just north of the scenic Wolf Lake, which straddles the border of Indiana and Illinois and draws a large number of visitors each year.
The first of the Village Post Offices opens in Wolf Lake at 10 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) at the Wolf Lake Marathon, 1445 US 33, Wolf Lake, IN 46796. An open house will follow from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. This will be the 28th VPO to open in the Greater Indiana District.
The second opens in Grabill in Allen County. Surrounded by Amish farms, Grabill has become well-known for the number of antique and country craft stores along its streets. It is the site of the opening of the 29th VPO in the Greater Indiana District, which takes place at 1 p.m. (EST) at Grabill Hardware, 13534 Main St. Grabill, IN 46741. An open house will follow from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
The new postal centers will be opened by Postmasters Kim Hernly and Lisa Curlin. Several USPS and local officials will be present at the event.
Last year, the Postal Service introduced the VPO model as an alternate retail location for postal products and services, especially in rural communities.
VPOs are operated by local businesses contracting with the Postal Service, and offer a range of popular postal products and services including stamps and flat-rate packaging.
