Student injured in Ohio car-bus crash

A student was injured when a car crashed into a school bus southwest of Van Wert, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The collision occurred about 4 p.m. Monday at Van Wert Willshire and Richey roads. The school bus, northbound on Richey, failed to yield to a 2007 Ford Focus traveling west on Van Wert Willshire, and the Focus hit the side of the bus, state troopers said.

The school bus was taking 24 students home from Van Wert elementary, junior and senior high schools. Medics took one student hurt in the crash to Van Wert County Hospital, the patrol said. The student’s name and condition were not released.

The Focus driver, Robert Roehm, 26, of Rockford, and his passenger, Amanda Roehm, 25, were treated for minor injuries. The bus driver, Patricia Woodruff, 54, of Van Wert, and the Roehms were wearing seat belts.

The intersection was closed for about an hour as authorities dealt with the crash.
