Irish send 8 to NFL combine

Notre Dame will send eight players to the NFL combine, which runs Feb. 23 to 26 at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Tight end and former Bishop Dwenger star Tyler Eifert is among the largest group of Irish players to receive a combine invite since the program sent 10 players in 2002.

Other Notre Dame players who will work out at the combine are linebacker Manti Te'o, center Braxston Cave, defensive end Kapron Lewis-Moore, running backs Theo Riddick and Cierre Wood and safeties Zeke Motta and Jamoris Slaughter.

Slaughter, whose season ended with an Achilles injury in Week 3, is pursuing a sixth year of eligibility. Notre Dame spokesman Michael Bertsch said the process for the NCAA to grant Slaughter another year of eligibility is still on going.

The workouts begin Feb. 23 with tight ends, offensive linemen and special teams. Quarterbacks, running backs and receivers go on Feb. 24. On Feb. 25, defensive linemen and linebackers work out, and defensive backs wrap up the combine Feb. 26.
